On December 14, Osram released the first UVC LED device Oslon UV 3636, which officially entered the UVC LED market.
Oslon UV 3636 has a size of 3.6mm x 3.6mm and a wavelength of 275nm. It includes low-power and medium-power solutions, both of which are suitable for sterilization. Among them, the optical power of the low-power UVC LED is 4.5mW when the current is 30mA, and the optical power of the medium-power UVC LED is 42mW when the current is 350mA.
Christian Leirer, product manager of Osram Opto Semiconductors, said that the Oslon UV 3636 device is the first innovative product within the scope of Osram’s UVC business. It is expected that a high-power UVC LED device will be launched in early 2021.
Osram said that UVC LEDs are small in size and easy to install in end applications, directly corresponding to the objects to be disinfected. For example: UVC LED is integrated in the faucet, which can significantly reduce bacteria; UVC LED is used in the car's air conditioning system to purify the air before it is blown into the car.
In addition, the direct integration of the UVC light source in the terminal application can also ensure that the high-energy short-wave UVC light will not reach the surrounding environment, so it will not cause harm to people.
In addition to UVC LEDs, Osram is also actively exploring the UVA LED market. In September this year, Osram launched the Air Zing Mini, a UVA LED in-car air purifier. The UVA LED used has a wavelength of 360-370nm and a sterilization rate of 99.9%.
Despite previous market feedback, the demand for UV LED products in the second half of this year was not as strong as in the first half of the year, but in fact, epidemic prevention has become more and more normalized, and the current global epidemic crisis is approaching, the demand for UV LED disinfection products is expected to continue to grow .
Furthermore, the layout and overweight of major industry manufacturers such as Signify, Mulinsen and Osram are also sufficient to show the unlimited potential of the UV LED market. From the perspective of the industry itself, driven by technology leaders such as Osram, the commercial application of UV LED products is just around the corner.
