On October 14, Apple’s iPhone 12 series was officially released. The entire series uses OLED screens, mainly supplied by Samsung and LG. BOE is not on the supplier list this time, but there is still a chance.
As early as the end of May, Korean media revealed that Apple had placed an order for 75 million new iPhone OLED screens, of which 55 million were supplied by Samsung and the remaining 20 million were supplied by LG.
Recently, "TheElec" reported that among the four iPhone 12 series, LGD provides the 6.1-inch screen panel of the iPhone 12, while the screen panels of the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will all be provided by Samsung Display.
"TheElec" quoted industry insiders as pointing out that Apple expects to produce 70 million iPhone 12 series models by the end of the year, and usually smartphone manufacturers will order an additional 10% of the screen panel volume as a reserve, so Samsung Display and LGD panel supply The amount will total about 80 million pieces.
Among them, LGD supplies 20 million pieces, which is a four-fold increase compared to the 5 million pieces LG supplied iPhone screen panels last year; Samsung monitors supply 60 million pieces, which is also an increase of 20% compared with 50 million pieces last year.
In addition, market sources said that the main reason for BOE's failure this time was that the relevant panel test failed to pass Apple's standards. However, BOE still has strong competitiveness.
According to a report by "Patently Apple" in September, the BOE B11 production line specializes in producing 4 million OLED panels for Apple to test, and they have been sent to Apple to enter the Apple supply chain.
"TheElec" also believes that BOE still has the opportunity to become a panel supplier for the new iPhone 12.
Therefore, according to Apple's consistent style in selecting suppliers, it is estimated that it is only a matter of time before BOE becomes one of the suppliers.
It is also worth noting that there have been reports that the screen panels of Huawei Mate 40 Pro will be provided by BOE, Samsung and LG. The Mate 40 series will be released on the 22nd of this month, and the panel supplier will soon be announced.
